Montolivo-ItalyItaly midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has conceded that his side conceded avoidable goals following their latest 2-2 draw against Romania in a friendly match on Tuesday evening.

– PLAYER RATING: Italy 2-2 Romania

A quickfire double saw the Azzurri take lead 2-1 in the second half, but were forced to share the spoils after a goalkeeping error from Salvatore Sirigu saw Florin Andone equalise right at the death.

With the side also recently suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Belgium in Brussels, the 30-year-old has expressed his disappointment with Italy’s previous results despite positive performances in the respective outings.

“We’re disappointed as the two games were in my view positive, above all in Belgium and the second half today,” Montolivo told Rai Sport.

“We conceded avoidable goals with distractions and that is something we need to work on.”

Germany’s international friendly against the Netherlands at Hannover’s HDI-Arena was cancelled amid security fears of a possible attack following the recent terrorist related events in Paris.

Nevertheless, Montolivo expressed his solidarity with the teams affected by recent events, but insists it is his duty to carry on playing.

“I just heard now of the incident and it’s hard to comment on that, but we have a duty to carry on with our lives. It’s not easy, but we must carry on.”
