Higuain Napoli UdineseNapoli secured a narrow 1-0 win against Udinese at the Stadio San Paolo in their Sunday afternoon Serie A fixture.

Once again, Gonzalo Higuain was the hero for the Partenopei, scoring his ninth league goal of the season in the second half.

The hosts threatened first through their in-form striker Gonzalo Higuain, plucking the cross from Lorenzo Insigne out of the air and shooting with his back to goal, only just missing the upright.

At the other end the Zebrette were mounting their own offensive, Silvan Widmer stinging the hands of Pepe Reina but nothing more than that.

Higuain was then presented with a great opportunity, as him freed himself from defenders after a pass from Allan but sent his shot straight at Orestis Karnezis.

The Greek shot-stopper was needed again moments later, halting Jose Callejon who had been played one-on-one by Higuain. Marek Hamsik tried to pick up the pieces but couldn’t hit the target.

Napoli ended the half with just the one attempt on goal, but it was their second attempt that ultimately gave them the lead.

Higuain with an inch perfect finish to guide it past defenders and goalkeeper into the bottom corner, Jorginho was the architect but the Argentinian made the finish look easy.

Udinese went in search of an equaliser, Widmer coming close to sneaking his header past Pepe Reina but the Spaniard reacted quickly to beat it away.

Full-back Ali Adnan had a good opportunity to fashion a goal, but his powerful cross into the area didn’t get the desired deflection. Karnezis had to keep the deficit to one, parrying a shot from Elseid Hysaj at his near post.

The Azzurri saw out the final minutes, moving them up to third in the Serie A table, while Udinese sit just outside the relegation zone.
