Lazio coach Stefano Pioli is pleased with the success of the side in the Europa League following the ritiro imposed on the squad as punishment for their recent form.
The Biancocelesti had won just one of their previous five Serie A games but hosted Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on Thursday night in the Europa League in their first game back, not only claiming a 3-1 victory but also qualification to the knockout stages of the competition.
“The ritiro has been constructive,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.
“We are a team that wants to do well and those two days [of the ritiro] helped us improve so much.
“In the league we were distracted in some situations and we cannot afford to be like that in Italy.”
Discussing the European competition, the Italian tactician is delighted with the club’s progress.
“Going through to the next round is quite an achievement,” added Pioli.
