Speaking ahead of the upcoming Europa League game against Dnipro, Lazio coach Stefano Pioli has revealed the ritiro was a decision of the club which he agreed with.

The punishment was a result of the recent poor form of the club, with the Biancocelesti winning just one of the last five Serie A games.

“The team wants to get out of this situation,” the coach told reporters.

“These days we spent in ritiro were useful to understand where to improve. We need to make sacrifices for each other.

“We could do more; this made us lose confidence and now we have to recover it.”

Despite the disappointing results in Serie A, the Roman side are top in their Europa League group and a draw against Dnipro will be enough to guarantee qualification to the next stage of the tournament.

“We’re lacking in consistency. We only play in Europe every two or three weeks, and we have been perfect so far.” Pioli said.

The 50-year-old coach is under pressure and tomorrow’s clash at the Stadio Olimpico could be decisive.
