AS Roma v Atalanta BC - Serie AAfter a crushing 2-0 loss to Atalanta on Sunday at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma’s sporting director Walter Sabatini has urged the club to take collective responsibility and return to their former heroics.

The Giallorossi looked deflated following their 6-1 humbling against Barcelona midweek, and were unable to answer Alejandro Gomez’s first half strike before Maicon drew a straight red card to gift German Denis his goal from the penalty spot.

“We played the game as convalescents,” the sporting director told Premium Sport.

“We came off a defeat that was difficult to digest. We knew that we wouldn’t be at our best, but we were hoping to win the match with other requirements.

“This is a dramatic moment, we must assume our responsibilities by adopting good behaviour. We have to correct our actions and return as the protagonists from 15 days ago.”

Sabatini then made his position clear on his support for under fire coach Rudi Garcia.

“The coach does his job well, but he’s unlucky,” he argued.

“We have to come out as a group, we don’t need a culprit. The coach deserves Roma and will stay, we will find a solution together.”
