Vincenzo Montella - FiorentinaSampdoria have denied reports they have reached an agreement with Vincenzo Montella following Tuesday’s sacking of Walter Zenga.

The widely expected appointment has been delayed due to L’Aeroplanino being contracted to Fiorentina, with the Viola reportedly unwilling to budge on their €3 million release clause.

Following multiple reports on Friday that an agreement had been reached to pay €2.2m to the Gigliati, the Blucerchiati released a statement playing down such reports as unfounded.

“Sampdoria would like to clarify that we have not yet reached any agreement with Vincenzo Montella,” read a statement.

“The figures that have been circulated by the media have no basis.”

One of the widely reported figures is that the Italian striker is set to sign a two and a half year deal worth around €1.4m per season with a release clause of €1.5m.

Montella spent three years as coach of Fiorentina, leading his team to three consecutive Serie A finishes in 4th position and taking them to last season’s Europa League semi-finals.
