Vicenzo Montella FiorentinaSampdoria‘s seemingly imminent appointment of Vincenzo Montella as coach will mean that Fiorentina will have additional funds to use to bring in new players in January. .

Montella, despite being sacked at the end of the 2014-15 season, was under contract with the Viola for another two seasons and Samp will pay the release clause to end his contract at Fiorentina and appoint him as their new coach.

As reported by La Nazione, this means that the Viola will save about €6 million on his wages and earn €2.2m from the release clause, cashing in a total of €8m.

Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade is planning on reinvesting this sum to buy a defender, and two options on his list are Benfica’s Lisandro Lopez and River Plate’s Eder Balanta.

Both players have a reported cost of over €10m, but the money earned by the departure of Montella could help towards one of the two signings.
