Crotone at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in their Tuesday evening Coppa Italia clash.

Luiz Adriano gave the hosts the lead before Ante Budmir leveled the score, but Giacomo Bonaventura and M’Baye Niang scored in extra time to ensure the win.

The Rossoneri were on the back foot, goalkeeper Christian Abbiati was tested when former Parma forward Raffaele Palladino got goal side, but took his shot far too early and easily saved by the veteran shot-stopper.

Full-back Bruno Martella played the ball back to captain Pietro De Giorgio, who lashed it toward goal but Abbiati got down smartly.

In the second half it all changed. Andrea Poli found Luiz Adriano with a perfectly weighted through ball into the box, the Brazilian feinted to the right to avoid the dive from Alex Cordaz and passed into the open net.

Antonio Nocerino had a golden chance to extend their lead with an overhead kick, but Cordaz dived to his left to deny him. After working hard to match their opponents, the Squali equalised.

Ante Budmir beat Cristian Zapata to the header and thumped it past Abbiati to shock the hosts. Crotone were denied a clear penalty opportunity when Zapata hacked down Budmir in the box, but both sides would go to extra time to decide the result.

Milan eventually found the winner through substitute Giacomo Bonaventura. A free kick just outside the area was sublimely curled into the bottom corner, goalkeeper Cordaz had little hope of reaching it.

M’Baye Niang added a third when Riccardo Montolivo played the one-two with the Frenchman, making it easy for the Frenchman to pass it into the back of the net.
