Bologna midfielder Amadou Diawara is disappointed with his dismissal in Saturday evening’s 1-0 victory away to Genoa.

The youngster was given his marching orders in the final minutes of the game, having been shown his second yellow card of the day following Luca Rossettini’s stoppage time winner, after reacting to alleged racist abuse from a group of Genoa fans.

“I was happy for the goal,” Diawara explained to Bologna’s official website.

“After celebrating with Rossettini I mimed some Gorilla gestures in response to the howls I heard directed at me, from the crowd behind the goal.

“It was in no way a vulgar or offensive gesture, it was simply an answer to what I thought was a lack of respect shown towards me.

“I am very disappointed that this gesture was misunderstood [by the referee], however, it is something that I will learn from.”
