Carpi coach Fabrizio Castori is delighted with his side’s 1-0 victory over Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia, though maintains he predicted the result after their loss in Serie A last weekend.
The Biancorossi travelled to Florence on the back of a heavy 3-0 defeat against Fiorentina’s Tuscan rivals Empoli on Sunday and Castori believes that the loss inspired his side to hit back against the Viola.
“I expected a big reaction today after the defeat to Empoli,” Castori told journalists after the game.
“We have been lucky enough to have had the chance to play so soon after such a big loss.
“After the first half, Fiorentina didn’t cause any real problems for us and we were able to close out the match following the goal.
“The fact that Fiorentina played the game with the majority of their regular starters also speaks volumes for what we have accomplished.”
