Edin Dzeko has apologised for an outburst directed towards referee Andrea Gervasoni which saw him earn a straight red card in Roma’s 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday afternoon.

The Bosnian’s actions overshadowed the Giallorossi’s first victory in eight matches and the 29-year-old took to social media to share his delight in winning while acknowledging his mistake.

“Big win for us tonight!” Dzeko stated on his official Instagram profile.

“It was a very important win after a few bad results and important to end the year with a victory.

“We must start next year together because only together can we do great things.

“Finally, I apologise to everyone for the sending off. It was not right and will not happen again.”

The striker received the red card in the 74th minute after he is believed to have told Gervasoni to ‘f**k off’ in english.
