Paulo SousaFiorentina coach Paulo Sousa is upset with his side’s 1-0 loss at home to Carpi on Wednesday afternoon, blaming a lack of fitness and cooperation within the squad.

The Viola join the list of Serie A giants to crash out of the competition in recent days, after a late Antonio Di Gaudio goal sent the Tuscans spinning and in front of a furious Fio coach Sousa.

“This wasn’t the result that I had in mind but in the Coppa Italia this sort of thing can happen,” Sousa told the press after the game.

“The team became stretched and allowed the opponent to close us down and have more space on the break.

“I am really annoyed.”

The loss is Fiorentina’s second in a row, after travelling north on Sunday and losing out 3-1 to Juventus, Sousa believes the double header of games has taken its toll on the team.

“We struggled because we ran a lot,” he continued.

“The base for a team in being united with each-other, when we’re not united we’re going to have difficulties.

“I hope I won’t have to see the team play like this ever again.”
