Fiorentina have received positive news in their quest to build a new stadium as the current occupiers of the proposed site have agreed to leave.

The club reportedly hope to open the new facility in 2018 although they must still find funding.

According to La Nazione, the fruit wholesale company which currently occupies the land in the area of Novoli has found a new home, paving the way for development by Fiorentina.

Novoli is close to the city’s airport and further from the centre than the Viola’s current at home at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The club are expected to formally present their proposals to the authorities in spring 2016 and they hope to lay the first stone in 2017 with a target opening date of 2018 in mind.

Fiorentina still need to find a partner to build the stadium which is estimated to cost €320 million.
