Garcia AS Roma - Serie ARoma boss Rudi Garcia believes beating Spezia in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday is hugely important for his side as the competition represents a great opportunity to win some silverware.

After a poor run of results in the league has seen the Lupi slip to fifth place in Serie A, the Frenchman played down concerns about his future after Sunday’s 0-0 draw at the Stadio San Paolo against Napoli extended their winless run in Serie A to four games.

“After the game [against Napoli] the boys knew they put in a good defensive performance,” Garcia told Roma TV.

“Our league position is still good, we’re not far off the pace and we still have plenty of time to recover.”

The former Lille boss will not be taking any chances against the Aquilotti and will field his strongest side as the Giallorossi aim to win the Coppa Italia for the first time since 2008.

“We have to reach the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia, but it won’t be easy as we’re facing an opponent that plays with great energy,” added Garcia.

“The score? The win is all that will matter. I don’t like to make predictions.

“What counts is the game tomorrow and we have to play well at the Stadio Olimpico which won’t be full.

“I don’t understand why the kick-off is scheduled for 14:30 [CET], it’s a time that doesn’t make sense as it prevents many supporters from attending.

“I have confidence in this squad and tomorrow everyone who isn’t tired or injured will be available to play, Keita and Gervinho will be out.”
