Champions League but was disappointed with the lack of fans in the Curva Sud.

A goalless draw against BATE Borisov was enough to see the Giallorossi qualify and come above Bayer Leverkusen due to their head-to-head record.

“First off, we knew without a packed Curva Sud the atmosphere would be different,” Garcia stated during his press conference.

“We need to change the minds of those fans and do that by winning,” he added.

“It was sad to hear the boos at the end, but we can change the situation.

“However, the team did do everything tonight to try to in the game.

“In the end we qualified as we were stronger than those in third and fourth position in our group.”

Despite the qualification, Roma struggled to combat against BATE’s counterattacking tactics and nearly lost the match nearer the end.

“We could have done better.”

“But a team who has 24 shots on goal did not play poorly.

“Tonight our bench was short on numbers in the attacking area, and even Dzeko [Edin] gained cramp near the end of the game but I could not change that.

“We still hit our first aim of the season which was to qualify.

“In February we will have new forces in the knockout games as well.”

Although the draw will be a disappointment for Roma, past performances have also not been up to expectations.

“Yes, it is no longer the same team as before due to our lack of attacking depth.”

“We are at that time of the season where we have to play the same players.

“Points against Bologna and Torino were dropped, but when we have those moments they can still be useful results.

“Recovering quickly is the key here considering we face Napoli on Sunday.

“Maybe we gave a bit too much today without thinking of that.”
