Riccardo Montolivo, AC Milan 2012/13AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo has admitted January will be a crucial crossroads for the Rossoneri’s season.

The entertaining 4-2 win at Frosinone left the Milan side sixth in the table with 28 points, boosting players’ morale following the recent disappointing draws against Carpi and Hellas Verona.

“We really wanted to get these three points,” Montolivo told ACmilan.com.

“We could have suffered a bit less, but we eventually scored four goals so it’s fine.

“We don’t need many forwards to create chances, instead the key is to have a balanced team.”

The 30-year-old has emerged as a key player to coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, having started 15 games and being the fifth most-fielded of the Rossoneri men as they enter a run of games in January including rivals Roma and Fiorentina.

“There’s a close relationship between us and the coach,” the captain said.

“He’s an honest person and we give everything for him and the club.

“This year we’ll have a different physical training and we know that January will be a crucial month for us.”
