Sarri NapoliNapoli coach Maurizio Sarri has praised the performance of his team in their 3-0 over Hellas Verona, which saw the Partenopei reach the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

The Neapolitans were totally dominant throughout and they opened the scoring in the third minute through Omar El Kaddouri before goals from Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon sealed the win.

“This competition matters to us, that’s why I put such a strong team out,” said Sarri at his post-match press conference.

“We still need to improve on certain facets of our game, though we have scored 34 goals at home in 12 games we need to be get better at defending set-pieces and winning the ball back quickly.

“[Mirko] Valdifiori had one of his best games and he improves as he plays. But all of our players are doing well.

“We have so many potent attacking players. We have made 34 goals at home, three per game we are really challenging the established statistics.

“Why didn’t I rest [Gonzalo] Higuain? He wanted to play and I wanted to give a signal to everyone that this was a very important match.”

Sarri also said he did not have any control over whether the club would sign players in the January transfer window.

“I do not have to agree to anything, I do a different job. The club will do what it can do, if there are no solutions, we have quality in [Ivan] Strinic and [Christian] Maggio, [Nathaniel] Chalobah is also improving tactically.

“My job is to improve the players not ask for more, then if the company has targets they will try to sign them. ”
