Round 16 proved to be a weekend of mixed results, although Serie A leaders Inter took away full points once again.

The Nerazzurri remained on top with a 4-0 demolition job on Udinese while title contenders Napoli and Roma played out a 0-0 draw.

Juventus continued their climb to the top part of the table by beating second place Fiorentina 3-1, and Bologna recorded another upset by overcoming Genoa away from home.

Lazio could only take one point away from their game against Sampdoria after conceding a last minute goal, while AC Milan couldn’t take advantage of their home ground either with a draw to last placed Verona.

Palermo and Empoli both thumped their opponents and Chievo picked up their sixth win of the season.

Sassuolo and Torino ended up with the weekend off, after their game was cancelled due to excessive fog.

Here are our pick of the best five goals from the round.

5. Alessandro Matri – Lazio

Alessandro Matri made an immediate impact with this precise header, just 12 minutes after he replaced Miroslav Klose from the bench.

A quick cross in from the left found the Italian striker inside the box, who leapt over his opponent and headed the ball in off the post.

The goal sent the Lazio players into wild celebration, which included goalkeeper Federico Marchetti who injured his hamstring on his way to rejoice with the 31-year-old.

4. Riccardo Saponara – Empoli

Empoli controlled the ball beautifully from defence to attack, before Riccardo Saponara latched onto a brilliant through- ball and put his side 2-0 up.

A lofted pass from Massimo Maccarone was expertly placed in front of 23-year-old Italian, who calmly slotted the ball underneath the keeper into the back of the net.

The goal was one of three superbly worked goals from the Azzurri in their comfortable victory over Carpi.

3. Massimo Maccarone – Empoli

Another Empoli goal makes the top five this week, with another superb effort from captain Massimo Maccarone.

Quick direct movement from defence to attack from the Azzurri resulted in the ball making its way to Marcel Buchel out wide. The Austrian cleverly lifted a through-ball over two defenders into the path of Maccarone, who smacked it in on the volley.

A wonderful goal which clarified the absolute dominance from Empoli all day.

2. Aleksandar Trajkovski – Palermo

Aleksandar Trajkovski’s stunning goal was just one of the many highlights in Palermo’s 4-1 thumping of Frosinone.

The 23-year-old Macedonian was given the ball out wide with little support around him. He then wrong-footed his opponent, stepped to the edge of the box and smashed an absolute pearler into the top corner of the far post.

Trajovski’s first goal of the season is definitely one to remember.

1.Marcelo Brozovic – Inter

This round’s goal of the week was an outright classic.

Marcelo Brozovic found the ball out wide on the left before sharply cutting in past his opponent and bending the ball into the far corner of net.

The strike from just outside the box was the Croatian’s second goal of the campaign and one of the best goals of the season so far. Enjoy.
