Fiorentina defender Nenad Tomovic says that the players at the club are pleased to have achieved their minimum target for this season’s Europa League by qualifying for the knockout rounds.

The Viola will discover their European fate on December 14 during the draw for the first two knockout rounds, after a goal from Khouma Babacar against Belenenses ensured their safe passage through the group stage as leaders.

“It was important for us to win and go through,” said the Serbian to Sky Sport Italia.

“We can now start to think about how to prepare for our forthcoming match against Juventus [in Serie A].

“Our goal was to go through tonight, so we are happy to have achieved that.”

Fiorentina reached the semi-finals of last year’s tournament and will be eager to replicate that success, which was eventually cut short at the penultimate hurdle at the hands of eventual winners Sevilla.

“Now we’ll be waiting for the draw whilst playing our league fixture,” Tomovic continued.

“What mattered most tonight was the result, but our performance in the game was not as bright as it has been recently.”
