Montolivo and Higuain - AC Milan v NapoliRiccardo Montolivo has outlined the key to AC Milan’s 2-0 Serie A beating of Fiorentina was the Rossoneri’s vibrant start to the match.

Pressure on the Diavolo and in particular on coach Sinisa Mihajlovic was eased after beating a strong Viola outfit to return to sixth in the league table after a sixth victory at the Stadio San Siro in 2015/16.

“The key was a strong start, we worked hard on not giving them much space between the lines, being tight and compact,” said Montolivo to Rai Sport.

“Recent months have not been easy but this was a good response, although we must be aware that it is not enough, serenity comes with more results.”

The tough tests continue for Milan, who travel to seventh-placed Empoli on Saturday, but the Italian midfielder considers himself in strong form before the clash.

“I think I’m playing better than I was, compared to before these performances have allowed me to be more effective,” Montolivo concluded.
