Thirty-five Italian clubs have been placed under investigation for alleged large-scale tax evasion, including Serie A giants AC Milan, Lazio and Napoli.
Police have already seized over €12 million worth of assets from a total of up to 64 people involved with Italian football, including Adriano Galliani, Aurelio De Laurentiis, and Claudio Lotito.
As reported by La Repubblica, the Naples public prosecutor’s office has opened the inquiry into tax evasion and false invoicing within the sport.
The search will also look to investigate players and top agents within Italian football, as well as the aforementioned club executives.
It has been reported that the search being carried out on Tuesday morning is led by deputy prosecutor Vincenzo Piscitelli and prosecutors Stefano Capuano, Vincenzo Ranieri and Danilo De Simone.
As of Tuesday morning, AC Milan and Napoli both declined to comment on the allegations.
