Verona forward Luca Toni believes he and Mario Mandzukic are among a dying breed of centre-forwards.

The veteran striker has netted in his last two outings for the Gialloblu but they remain rooted to the bottom of the league table.

With a trip to a resurgent Juventus looming, Toni believes his side are capable of staging an upset.

“Juventus? They are much stronger but we can make it difficult for them,” the 38-year-old told Tuttosport.

“I believe in salvation, the team does belong in last place and Verona can pick up points everywhere.”

Toni also touched upon the increase in false-nine’s in Europe, with his opposite number on Wednesday, Mandzukic, among a dying breed of number 9’s.

“Mandzukic? He is a centre-forward. He and I are among the few left.

“Now it is fashionable to play a false-nine.”
