New York City FC midfielder Andrea Pirlo is hopeful of a call-up to Antonio Conte’s Azzurri squad for the upcoming European Championship.
Italy will face Belgium, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland in Group E of the tournament, which will kick off on June 10.
“My goal is to be at EURO 2016,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia. “Ultimately, however, it will be up to the coach to decide.”
“I have played a few months in Major League Soccer now and I did not expect the level to be so high.
“It is not as tactical as in Europe but it is making progress.”
Before moving to the United States, the 36-year-old spent four seasons at Juventus, where he won the Scudetto in each season after joining the club on a free transfer from AC Milan.
