Roma VeronaRoma midfielder Miralem Pjanic believes the side are still lacking confidence following their 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona.

The game marked Luciano Spalletti’s first match in charge since rejoining the capital outfit this past week but a draw at home against winless Verona was a disappointing start to his second reign.

“We worked well this week, there was a good intensity in training,” Pjanic told Premium Sport after the match.

“The issue today was not physical because we created chances up until the end.

“We just need to regain confidence in ourselves but it is only a matter of time.”

A tough test against Juventus is up next for the Giallorossi and Pjanic is already looking ahead to a match.

“Juventus has come back into the title race as they have stormed back up the table,” Pjanic said.

“We will do all that we can to try to win.”

Spalletti opted to deploy Pjanic as a holding midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 system and the Bosnia international appears to have taken a liking to his newly defined role.

“I enjoyed playing in the position I did today and I will always do my best to do what the coach wants,” Pjanic added.

“Obviously the link up with the attack can still improve.”

The match proved to be another struggle for misfiring striker Edin Dzeko, who was again jeered by the home fans but Pjanic was quick to defend his compatriot.

“Unfortunately as footballers, we all suffer negative moments such as these,” Pjanic said.

“He is helping to create chances but just hasn’t been able to finish one of them off himself.

“He is lacking a little bit of luck at the moment but he is a great striker who will soon return to his goalscoring ways.”

The results leaves Roma in 5th place with 35 points from 20 games, five points off a Champions League spot.
