AC Milan are attempting to sign the Argentine defender Leonel Vangioni from River Plate before the end of the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old has agreed personal terms but the clubs are yet to iron out the financial details.

According to Calciomercato.it, the left-back is set to sign a four-year contract which will see him earn €1.25 million per year with an additional €200,000 available in bonuses.

Milan and Vangioni both want the deal to go through immediately rather than wait for when the player’s contract expires in the summer and the Rossoneri have offered River Plate €750,000 to get a transfer completed as soon as possible.

Los Millonarios hope to earn €1m for the sale of the defender as they are obliged to send 30 per cent of the transfer fee to his former side Newell’s Old Boys.

The Argentina international made 13 Primera Division and eight Copa Libertadores appearances as the Argentine giants won South America’s premier competition for the third time in their history.
