Niang AC MilanM’Baye Niang has revealed that he was never close to joining Leicester City in January.

The AC Milan forward was linked with the Premier League leaders but the French youth international believes his future remains in Italy.

“Staying at Milan was the right choice for me,” Niang said.

“There were rumours about me joining Leicester but really I never thought about leaving.

“I have only thought about Milan this season and I am determined to do well for them this season.”

Niang is in fine form with three goals in three games for the Rossoneri, a feat he has never achieved in his career before, and he is adamant Milan can still qualify for Europe.

“We believe we can challenge for Europe,” Niang added.

“We will have to do well against Genoa at the weekend but it is not a decisive game.

“It does not matter who scores, the most important thing is to win.

“Look at the derby against Inter. Alex is a defender but he broke the deadlock.”
