Carpi were dealt a stinging 3-1 defeat by Roma at the Stadio Alberto Braglia in their Friday evening Serie A fixture.

Goals from Lucas Digne, Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko cancel out Kevin Lasagna’s equaliser as the capital side move up the table.

The Giallorossi didn’t have many chances in the first half, with the exception of one squandered effort in the dying minutes. A flick on from Edin Dzeko found Mohamed Salah, but the Egyptian clattered his shot into the crossbar from less than six yards. However, the visitors did take the lead early in the second half in spectacular fashion. A cracking effort from Lucas Digne from distance was simply too good for Vid Belec, who couldn’t get a glove in the way.

Carpi went on the charge, a determined run saw Kevin Mbakogu disposes Antonio Rudiger and lay it on a plate for Kevin Lasagna, who dutifully slammed it in the back of the net. Undeterred, the away side looked determined to find a winner, a strike from Radja Nainggolan brought the best out of Belec who dives to his left to deny the Belgian.

Edin Dzeko hadn’t scored since November last year, so it was a huge relief when the Bosnian international found the back of the net, Salah giving the striker an easy tap in. Salah was involved again second after, this time scoring one of his own. Belec saved the initial shot but the defender simply watched as the former Fiorentina man guided the ball into an empty net.

The result moves Roma up to third briefly moving ahead of Inter and Fiorentina, while Carpi continue to reside in the relegation zone.
