After victory over Genoa took AC Milan to within two points of city neighbours Inter in fifth, defender Mattia De Sciglio admitted claiming three points from the Grifone was vital.

However, the Italian international said that defensive carelessness will affect their Champions League chances, after allowing the Rossoblu to steal a late consolation through Alessio Cerci.

“We wanted to take home the three points,” De Sciglio told Mediaset Premium.

“It was a must because tonight there will be Fiorentina-Inter.

“Unfortunately against Udinese we had a setback, but today we have given a positive response.

“We only think match-by-match, but we want to return to play in Europe. We will have to give our best to claw back points from teams in front of us.

“However, the attitude we are showing will count a lot, but we will have to reduce the lapses in concentration in the closing minutes.

“We have to spit blood every game, there are no easy opponents.”
