delneriHellas Verona coach Luigi Delneri conceded that Lazio were worth their 5-2 win at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Gialloblu boss felt his side struggled to play at their best on account of tiredness after a run of fixtures in quick succession.

“Based on what I saw in the first half, my boys deserved to reach the break level,” said Delneri to Sky Sport Italia.

“We defended well and [Luca] Toni and [Giampaolo] Pazzini had two good chances as we gave Lazio very little.

“Their third goal was offside, we reacted well to make it 3-2 and then we gifted them a goal.

“Lazio did deserve to win though.

“The team paid dearly for such a busy run of fixtures and it’s strange that we had one day less of rest than our opponents.

“Lazio played on Saturday while we played on Sunday and we weren’t able to relax during our draw with Inter.

The 65-year-old also discussed what’s next for his side as they sit nine points from safety.

“We need to regain our mental energy, have some of our injured players return and go again,” Delneri added.
