verdu fiorentinaAfter spending much of his Fiorentina tenure on the bench, Joan Verdu is set to return to Spain after finalising his transfer deadline day exit from Serie A.

The 32-year-old central midfielder joined Paulo Sousa’s side in late August from United Arab Emirates club Baniyas but has since made just eight appearances between the Europa League and Serie A.

With a history of playing in La Liga with the likes of Barcelona, Deportivo La Coruna, Espanyol, and Real Betis, the Catalonia native will now follow in Giuseppe Rossi’s footsteps in an attempt to save Levante from relegation.

Verdu started just one Serie A match but netted a decisive right-footed strike in the 90th minute of a 3-0 victory against Atalanta in October after appearing as a substitute.

The Spaniard will arrive at Levante on a free transfer after terminating his contract at the Firenze side that had been set to run until June 2017.
