Soccer: Serie A; Genoa-LazioGenoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini said it was an important point following a 0-0 draw with Lazio at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Stefano Mauri came close for the visitors with a header that hit the crossbar, but the majority of the match proved a tightly contested affair.

“It is an important point,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia.

“It has been a difficult week after facing Fiorentina and Juventus,” he added.

“They were intense games against big teams, and now we have paid the price with injuries to [Leonardo] Pavoletti [Leonardo] and [Cristain] Ansaldi.

“We did try to win today so we played those players, and I think it’s the right way to go about things.”

Despite an end-to-end game, Genoa lacked any sort of clinical edge to their performance questioning if they could have added more to the match.

“We have to find the right balance,” Gasperini added.

“[Alessio] Cerci and Suso prefer playing on the right hand side so we have to see what we can do upfront in the future.

“But the team showed good strength on a tough match-up.

“It was a competitive game and maybe not the most beautiful but it was hard-fought.

“In defence we were solid and now we just need to sort out the attack.”
