Empoli coach Marco Giampaolo has given his approval to the Azzurri’s performance after they drew 0-0 with Atalanta.

Despite a rather open first-half both teams were not at their best and Giampaolo was pleased his side could come away from the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia with a point.

“We can’t always play at 100%, it is human to play below your capability in a few games.” said Giampaolo after the match to Sky Sport Italia.

“It was an even match, it could have done with a goal or two, but both teams have given everything.

“For us it is a great point against a difficult team. The boys did well.

“Although we haven’t won our attitude is what makes the difference, the boys have given everything today and that is what matters.”

Giampaolo was also asked whether Empoli’s chances of qualification for the Europa League had gone with this result.

“We never talked about qualification, there are seven very strong teams ahead of us. We are near them but those other teams are stronger than us. We are happy to be in eighth and we hope to stay in this position until the end of the season.”
