Pioli LazioLazio coach Stefano Pioli believes his side must believe they can qualify for Europe as they are good enough to do so despite their struggles in the 2015-16 Serie A season.

The Biancocelesti beat bottom side Hellas Verona 5-2 at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening.

“For as long as it’s mathematically possible, we have to believe we can qualify for Europe,” said Pioli to Sky Sport Italia.

“We can win a lot of games and pick up a lot of points but it won’t be easy for us to beat our rivals.”

The 50-year-old was also asked if he believes his team need to be shaken up mentally.

“It’s true that we need a mental change but that’s normal,” Pioli added.

“Working on players’ minds is a delicate but important and nice job for a coach. Today’s team was relatively young with some more experienced players.

“We have a World Cup winner, a World Cup runner-up and many internationals. We’re still paying for November when we picked up one point in six games.

“We are behind and I’ve asked my players to do something great and put together a run of useful results.”
