The shock Premier League leaders had been linked with both players, as they look to strengthen their squad for the title race, however, both players opted against joining up with the Italian tactician in England.

“Eder preferred to stay in Italy,” Ranieri told Radio Anch’io Lo Sport. “He was worried that he would not be able to settle in quickly enough.

“Niang thought it would be better for him to stay at Milan.”

The Brazilian-born Italy international impressed in the first half of the season at Sampdoria, peaking the interest of the one-time Serie A leaders, leading to a January switch to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Following their remarkable 3-1 away win at Manchester City on Saturday, Leicester sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, just 12 months on from finding themselves rock-bottom, before a late season surge saw them retain their top flight status last season.
