Roma winger Stephan El Shaarawy has expressed joy at his stunning start to life at the club.

The Italy international has started to revitalise his career after it stalled completely out on loan at Monaco, with his stay in Rome welcomed by two goals and an assist.

“I have definitely had a very positive impact at Roma,” said Il Faraone to Premium Sport.

“Two goals and an assist represent a positive period for me, but I’m trying not to get too excited as there is a long road ahead,” he continued.

Roma clinched victory against Sampdoria on the weekend as they moved within two points of a Champions League place, and El Shaarawy is hoping the Giallorossi can continue going from strength to strength under new coach Luciano Spalletti.

“We have to continue like this,” he said.

“We’re getting close but there’s also a lack of games left so we’ll be thinking as each one passes by.”

El Shaarawy didn’t shy away when it came to heaping praise upon coach Spalletti, who has settled in well after taking over from Rudi Garcia.

“Spalletti is a coach who knows a lot about football and knows the squad,” he said.

“We’re all very happy to have him with us and he asks a lot of us during the week in training, and then we try to take it to the pitch on the Sunday.”
