Round 23 of Serie A saw all of the top six sides secure valuable victories in their quests for European football.

Roma kicked it all off on Tuesday with an impressive 2-0 win away at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium.

A last gasp winner for Fiorentina in their 2-1 result at home to Carpi denied Inter the chance to go third after their 1-0 triumph over mid-table Chievo.

Verona secured their first three points of the season, beating Atalanta 2-1, whilst Frosinone scored a much-needed win over Bologna.  Milan kept pace with the top five as they left Palermo with a 2-0 scoreline.

Sampdoria drew with Torino, and Empoli saved a point at home to Udinese. Second placed Juventus got a narrow 1-0 win on their own soil over Genoa but Napoli remained top after defeating Lazio in the Capital.

5. Andrea Belotti – Torino

The Italian striker scored his second in the 94th minute to snatch a point at Sampdoria.

Strike partner Ciro Immobile lofted in a delightful cross from the left which saw Belotti rise highest to connect with a weighted header, destined for the far corner.

The goal sealed a 2-2 draw to avoid a seventh away loss of the season.

4. Roberto Soriano – Sampdoria

Midfield general, Soriano made the score 2-1 with this strike in the 84th minute.

After a break in midfield, the former Bayern Munich youth player found himself with the ball 25 yards out. He accessed his chances before curling a low shot into the bottom right hand corner, leaving the keeper unsighted and helpless.

Unfortunately this goal did not secure a valuable win for il Doria as Belotti equalized in stoppage time.

3. Jose Callejon – Napoli

Callejon continued his excellent form, scoring his fourth in as many games.

The Spaniard beat the lazy Lazio offside trap to latch onto Lorenzo Insigne’s exquisite pass over the top. He then calmly lobbed his shot over Federico Marchetti who was left in no-mans’ land as the ball bounced inside the far post.

The 2-0 win was enough to keep the Azzurri top in Serie A, going into the weekend.

2. Mohamed Salah – Roma

Salah ended a three month goal drought as he helped Roma secure a 2-0 win at Sassuolo.

After the away side played some measured 1,2 touch passing, the Egyptian attacker strolled towards the box and curled a left footed effort which couldn’t have been better placed as it nestled into the bottom corner.

Two wins on the bounce for the Giallorossi, sees them lie in fifth with a Champions League place still up for grabs.

1. Mauro Zarate – Fiorentina

Definitely the pick of the lot, Zarate showed why the Viola chose to bring him in from West Ham United.

Starting the move himself, he collected the ball on the left before tricking his way inside. Beating two players, he opened his body and unleashed a magnificent shot which looked certain to go wide of the post. However, the ball swung back inwards and left the ‘keeper with no chance as it struck the back of the net.

The goal came in the 93rd minute and made the score 2-1 to the hosts, as they clung on to third spot.
