Bologna completed a 2-0 win over Genoa at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in their Sunday afternoon Serie A fixture.

Goals from Emmanuel Giaccherini and Sergio Floccari completed a relatively easy win for the newly-promoted side.

The first opportunity fell the way of Luca Rizzo, who received the ball from Franco Brienza in the penalty area but sent his shot wide. The home supporters wouldn’t have to wait long for the opening goal, a great ball from Brienza found Emmanuel Giaccherini, who finished comfortably past Eugenio Lamanna for his seventh of the campaign.

Genoa had a few chances of their own in the first half, striker Leonardo Pavoletti found himself one-on-one with Antonio Mirante, but laboured on the ball too long and the Genoa defenders were able to ease him off the ball. Back came Bologna, this time the attempt came in the unlikely form of Domenico Maietta who span a shot in low from a corner; Lamanna able to gather comfortably.

Despite an injection of fresh legs after the hour, Genoa conceded yet again. A shot from former Grifone forward Sergio Floccari deflecting off Cristian Ansaldi and into the back of the net. Bologna weren’t prepared to take their foot off the gas, Brienza this time taking a shot on the edge of the area that billowed over the crossbar.

Suso Fernandez then had an attempt from distance that went just wide of Mirante’s goal, and Armando Izzo had an attempt having come forward from the back, again wide of the post. Brienza then came close after an excellent run from a deep position, his shot bouncing wide after being closed down. Despite the pressure on their goal, the Rossoblu were able to hold on for all three points.
