Marchisio - Italy v LuxembourgJuventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio was escorted from the pitch against Palermo on a stretcher on Sunday, sparking fears that he may miss the upcoming European Championship.

The Italy star’s knee appeared to buckle during the first half at the Juventus Stadium, with the player immediately being substituted off for Mario Lemina.

Further information about the injury is scarce, but if he is the victim of a serious injury then he will add to Italy coach Antonio Conte’s headaches for the upcoming tournament.

Fellow Azzurri midfielder Marco Verratti has been struggling with a host of injuries recently, with groin and calf issues hitting the Paris Saint-Germain player since the turn of the year.

In Italy’s last two fixtures against Germany and Spain, they experimented with midfield pairings of Thiago Motta and Riccardo Montolivo, plus Motta and Marco Parolo.
