Lazio - SampdoriaSampdoria defeated Lazio 2-1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon and moved closer to securing their Serie A survival.

Filip Djordevic opened the scoring for the Aquile, Fernando then netted the equaliser and Emiliano Viviano saved an Antonio Candreva penalty, before Modibo Diakite got the second half winner for Il Doria.

It was an open first half with both sides playing some neat possession football. The home side were more dangerous down the middle while the visitors had some pace to burn down the wings.

The Aquile took the lead in the third minute after Djordjevic headed in Candreva’s cross at the far post. Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti then made two easy saves from Nenad Krsticic and Luis Muriel, while Keita Balde had a chance for the visitors that went wide.

Fernando levelled the scoreline after 19 minutes when he ran onto a through-ball and side-footed a shot past Marchetti. After the goal, Muriel then had a free-kick that went wide and Dodo had a shot that flashed across goal.

Viviano made two crucial saves before half-time by first denying Keita Balde in a one-on-one situation and after the Aquile winger was fouled by Dodo, the Doria goalkeeper caught the ball as Candreva struck a weak penalty.

Early in the second half, Marchetti made a double save from Samp strikers Fabio Quagliarella and Muriel, and then the Biancocelesti started creating chances. Candreva, Senad Lulic and Keita Balde could have given Lazio the lead but they failed to hit the target.

It was in the 78th minute that Sampdoria took the lead with a scrappy goal. Fernando took the free-kick, Silvestre headed the ball on target, and then Diakite bundled the ball over the line after a scramble. Lazio searched for an equaliser but it proved to be in vain.
