de canio udineseUdinese coach Luigi De Canio credits hard work as the key to his side’s 2-1 victory against Fiorentina on Wednesday night.

The victory moves Udinese into 14th place in the Serie A table, a comfortable eight points above the relegation zone and the coach is pleased with the progression that his team have demonstrated of late.

“It was difficult to stay compact today but we succeeded by virtue of our hard work and improvements over the last few weeks,” De Canio told Rai Sport.

“We played a strong match against great adversaries who pass the ball well and provide no clear reference points.

“We stayed united and displayed the necessary confidence and conviction in order to achieve the result.”

While Serie A safety is all but achieved, the well-traveled bench boss maintains that there is plenty of work yet to be done.

“The three points were important to distance ourselves from the relegation zone but our aim is to finish the best we can,” he said.

“My boys deserve a better league position than the one which we currently hold so we will continue to play hard until the end.”

The 58-year-old then took a brief moment to address his future.

“I feel that I have done well and I am enjoying myself here, but I do not know what decisions will be made at the end of the season,” De Canio concluded.
