Daniel Agger LiverpoolBrondby IF defender Daniel Agger is set to depart the club when his contract expires in the coming weeks, with AC Milan hopeful of signing the Danish international.

The 31 year-old, who began his career with the Brondbyvester club before making the move to Liverpool, returned to his home country in 2014; much to the surprise of football fans everywhere.

Now it seems that the Rossoneri are preparing to test Agger’s conviction with a timely offer according to Tuttosport, an adequate replacement for the departing Brazilian defender Alex.

Agger was blighted by injury and inconsistency during his spell on Merseyside, and despite previous bids from Barcelona and Manchester City, he departed for just under €4 million.

His return to Denmark also saw him take a pay-cut, which could prove important in any upcoming negotiations with Milan should there be a reluctance to overpay such an injury-prone player.

Milan would give Agger a platform to return to playing at a high level once again, at the same time cementing his place in the Danish national team squad.

The move could be considered long overdue, given the number of years il Diavolo have been linked with Agger and been unsuccessful in luring him to Italy.
