cesare prandelli.1Former Azzurri coach Cesare Prandelli could succeed Edy Reja as Atalanta coach at the end of the season, with the Bergamaschi considering a coaching change.

Reja took over at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia midway through the 2014-15 campaign, with La Dea battling against relegation. Since then, the 70-year-old guided the club to Serie A survival in two successive seasons.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Prandelli has already reached an agreement with club president Antonio Percassi and could be announced within a week, which would see him return to the club where his coaching career began, and where he also enjoyed two spells as a player.

With the Orobici currently occupying 13th place in the Serie A table, Reja has come under criticism at times this season for an overly cautious and defensive style of play. Nonetheless, Il Corriere di Bergamo have written that the city is still behind their current coach.

Prandelli has been unattached since his short spell at Galatasaray came to an end in 2014, just a number of months after leaving his post as Italy boss.

Upon ending his playing career in 1990, Prandelli took the reins within Atalanta’s youth ranks, during which time he spent some time in charge of the first team in a caretaker role.
