Izzo Gasperini GenoaGenoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini believes his side did not deserve defeat in their thrilling 3-2 loss against Roma.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Francesco Totti cancelled out those from Panagiotis Tachtsidis and Leonardo Pavoletti before former Genoa youth product Stephan El Shaarawy bagged the late winner, and the 58-year-old showed signs of bitterness at how the match played out.

“We certainly struggled in the first half, but we improved in the second frame and didn’t deserve to lose today,” Gasperini told members of the media following the final whistle.

“We were quick and incisive but Roma have quality players who caused us problems, we didn’t have a response in the first half.”

Totti equalised for the Giallorossi from a free kick and the former Inter coach believes the foul should possibly not have been given.

“We were annoyed with the way we conceded as the infringement that led to the free kick wasn’t clear, but we played a good game overall,” he concluded.

Genoa remain level on 43 points with Empoli, occupying a position joint 12th in the Serie A table, safe from relegation.
