Giampaolo laments Empoli’s narrow defeat to Inter

marco giampaoloDespite seeing his side lose 2-1 to Inter on Saturday evening, Empoli coach Marco Giampaolo was still full of praise for his team.

Manuel Pucciarelli brought the Azzurri level just before half time, but they were unable to reply after Ivan Perisic netted what turned out to be the winner.

“For me, my lads can take the plaudits after this clash,” he told Premium Sport after the defeat. “I hope we will be praised for a good performance as a team that want to say something on the field.

“We deserved a different outcome, but we will continue to go on having fun with our football.”

Giampaolo also revealed his desire to move higher up the footballing ladder, although stressed that he would not leave the Tuscans any time soon.

“My ambition is to coach a big club,” he concluded. “But I am under no illusions, I will continue to work at this fantastic club.”

The Azzurri complete their Serie A season by hosting Torino at the Stadio Carlo Castellani next weekend, and could yet end up in the top half of the table.
