conteItaly coach Antonio Conte has triumphantly expressed his relief after being acquitted from charges of sporting fraud.

The Chelsea-bound bench boss was on trial for allegedly failing to report an instance of match fixing while in charge of Siena in 2011, but was cleared of any wrongdoing on Monday and was understandably thankful following the hearing’s conclusion.

“Today is the end of a long nightmare,” Conte said in a statement following the verdict.

“I have suffered for having my name linked to Calcioscommesse but I addressed the allegations with my head held high and I thank my family, who never doubted me and supported me through this tribulation.”

Conte had requested a fast-track trial in order for a decision to be reached before the European Championship and subsequent move to Stamford Bridge.
