Diego-Lopez-AC-MilanAC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez accused the club’s former coach Sinisa Mihajlovic of not showing him enough respect.

The Spanish stopper was replaced by the teenage Gianluigi Donnarumma while the Serbian was still in charge.

“I left Real Madrid mainly but not solely for footballing reasons,” said Lopez according to MilanNews.it.

“Keylor Navas came in and Milan looked like a good solution for my career. I regretted it a year after because I’m a Madrid fan and it was difficult to leave when I was a starter.”

The 34-year-old also shed some light on the difficulties of his time with the Rossoneri.

“Last season was one of transition with an inexperienced coach in [Filippo] Inzaghi,” added Lopez.

“We all expected more with Mihajlovic’s arrival but things continued to go badly. I’m still stunned by how he behaved, he acted strangely in relation to me a lot of times.

“He didn’t show me much respect and I don’t know what he was trying to do, but it was all very strange to me.

“Football is sometimes like that though and regardless, Donnarumma deserves to be the starting goalkeeper.”

The displaced goalkeeper also offered some indications into where his future might lie.

“I still have two years left on my contract at Milan, but it would be a shame to never play in the Premier League and I am 34 now,” added Lopez.

“I am open to anything and will go over it all in the summer with my family.”
