manciniInter coach Roberto Mancini has criticised his wasteful Nerazzurri side after they limply lost 2-0 to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night.

The result, earned by a classy chip from Miroslav Klose and a Antonio Candreva penalty, mathematically rules the Biscione out of a Champions League spot for this season.

“In the first 20 minutes we were awful and deserved to lose,” said Mancini to Premium Sport. “We had chances to score in the second half and we got them wrong. We lack quality and concentration.

“We struggled to create all night. This team is not good enough. There are many areas of the team which could do with improving. Our performance was at times pitiful.

“The attitude was awful. We were lethargic, it looked like a pre-season friendly. Many of the players have to realise Inter is Inter. Overall, our season hasn’t been bad, we wanted to get into the Champions League but this team still has many weaknesses.

“This is a young team and they need time to improve, but from next year we have to wipe out the mistakes we make.”

Mancini was also critical of defender Jeison Murillo after the Colombian got sent-off and gave away a penalty.

“Murillo was silly,” he added. “He should have stopped himself. He was naïve, this was his 35th game, so I hope he will learn. ”
