De MagistrisNaples mayor Luigi De Magistris has applauded Serie A side Napoli for their runner-up season and promised stadium renovations this summer.

The Partenopei finished second in the league table behind Juventus, but the politician commended the side for their attractive style of play over the course of the season.

“We may not have won the title, but we played the best football in the league,” De Magistris wrote on his personal Facebook profile.

“I want to thank the team for the marvelous adventure they gave us throughout this season, we played honestly until the end.”

The mayor also announced that the Stadio San Paolo will undergo some renovations during the off-season.

“Over the summer, important work will begin at the San Paolo,” De Magistris said.

“In our role as city council we strongly insisted for certain renovations to be implemented.

“We will employ assets worth as much as €25 million for the work, to demonstrate that the stadium can grow at the same pace as the city does.”
