Luca_ToniHellas Verona forward Luca Toni has confirmed that he will retire at the end of the 2015-16 Serie A season.

The 38-year-0ld began his career at Modena and has represented the likes of Fiorentina, Bayern Munich, Palermo, Juventus and Brescia during a career in which he also was part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup winning squad.

“It will be my last game as a player, it will be an emotional day for me,” said Toni to Sky Sport Italia.

“I’m not sure how I will live afterwards, hopefully more peacefully.

“I feel joy and sadness because a part of my life is ending and football was always my passion. I’ve always played with my friends and it gave me a sense of happiness which is difficult to explain.

“My knee operation and relegation have made this the worst year of my career and it took me a week to decide to retire.”

Toni had previously intended to retire a year earlier but was convicted to stay on for one more year with the Gialloblu.
