Sports betting can be a thrilling past time and with the number of different possibilities throughout a season, your bets can go any way, making it important to find the best football betting sites for your money. The Italian Serie A has been an exciting one this season with a huge number of shocks, so we’ve put together the top surprises of this year’s Serie A.

Juventus have once again won Serie A this season, 12 points clear of second placed Napoli. This is the fifth year in a row that Juventus have put on a show of pure quality, so it’s not much of a surprise that they have finished top of Serie A once again. However, their performance was disappointing at the start of the season, with the club winning just one of their first six games – losing 3 and drawing two. This poor start to the season caused critics to begin to fear that the winning side were going to continue on a losing streak and the weight of the silverware was finally getting to them, particularly with the loss of three big name players in the summer. Nevertheless, the high quality side quickly reaffirmed their position at the top of the league.

Possibly one of the biggest surprises of the season was Maurizio Sarri being appointed as Rafa Benitez’s replacement as manager at Napoli. With only one year’s coaching experience in Serie A, and having originally been a bank worker meaning he had no playing career to speak of, it was a bold move for the club’s board to make. At 56-years-old many believed that he would not be the manager to solve the club’s woes, but Napoli are now currently second in the league, with their performance having dramatically increased.

Lazio has had a run of poor form this season but have had a few surprising wins over bigger clubs like Inter Milan, who they beat both times they faced them, as well as beating Fiorentina 3-1 away from home. Wins like this may be what has kept Lazio in the middle of the table, where they are currently sitting in 8th place. Although the first half of the season looked a lot better than the second half, with the side hovering around third place for a few games, the side have remained relatively static around 8th place for the last eleven games, showing that they may have the potential to spring a bigger surprise next season. If they were to bring in some high quality players that may be able to convert their overwhelming number of draws and losses into wins next season, then we could be seeing Lazio closer to the top.

A topsy-turvy start to the season saw Fiorentina at the top of the table for the first time since 1999 with Milan, Juventus, Roma and Napoli all lacking in quality. Despite a turnaround towards the end of the season, the beginning of the season proved that Serie A football across the whole league is at a good level, and may in the near future begin to pull off surprise wins much like the Premier League has seen with Leicester City winning the title. Fiorentina have been one of the biggest surprises in Serie A this season, with them currently placing 5th in the table, the team have only consistently lost to Juventus and Roma both home and away, with the rest of the league winning at least once or drawing at least once. Although the start to the season was definitely better for them in terms of winning games, they have remained relatively consistent with draws and having lost just ten games in the season so far, they have a strong chance of making a good comeback and may even be potential title challengers next season.
